These pages describe what different presentations can look like, the patterns that may keep them going, and how evidence-based treatment approaches each one. They are written for general information and are not intended to diagnose any condition.

OCD presentations

OCD can center on many different themes. These pages describe some of the more common ones and how treatment approaches each.

How to use these pages

Each page follows the same structure: what the presentation can look like, the patterns that may keep it going, how treatment can help, and what treatment with me involves. You are welcome to read only the section that is relevant to you.

These pages describe patterns rather than diagnose them. The same behaviors can appear in OCD, in an anxiety disorder, following traumatic events, or for reasons unrelated to any of these. Recognizing yourself in a description is a reason to ask a question, not a conclusion about what you have.

If you are researching a specific worry repeatedly, it may be worth noticing that searching can itself become part of the cycle. A short conversation is often more useful than more reading.

Who these pages are for

They are written for adults who are considering treatment, for people who already have a diagnosis and want to understand what a particular therapy involves, and for family members trying to understand what someone they care about is experiencing.

They are not a substitute for an individual clinical assessment, and they are not intended to diagnose any condition. Treatment is always individualized, and the right approach depends on a full picture that a web page cannot provide.

All of this material is available in English and Spanish, and treatment is provided in both languages.
